Season 11 of Doctor Who revealed a new logo this week. It is not the first time since the 2005 reboot that Doctor Who has rebranded itself. In fact, rebranding after a change of show-runners seems to be a tradition.
Take a look at the changes From Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat:
It’s a significant difference. Now, throw in the new logo from the upcoming Chris Chibnall era:
… and don’t get me started on the massive departure these all are from the original, or the 70s or the 80s, and so on and so forth, etc
I haven’t seen any negative publicity or blogs about the new logo. However, I just wanted to preemptively say that changing logos is as much a hallmark of the show as the Doctor’s changing face, along with the music in the opening, the remodeling of the TARDIS and wardrobe. Of course, I still don’t know if anything will ever top the rock version of the theme song used in Season 9 of the reboot, to go along with Capaldi’s punk rock roots.
I like the new logo. It looks clean, and easy to hand draw yourself. Of course, font nerds are already at work with making their own version for people to download. It will also mean the merchandise with the old logo will now need replacing with the new logo: socks, purses, hair bows, etc.
Along with the new logo, more images were released to go along with the branding.
Some have noted how this new branding returns to the orange, red, gold color scheme found in the RTD era. For me, it reminds me of something you’d find in the Marvel movie canon. There has been an emphasis that this new season will be even more cinematic than any other, with new cameras, lenses and longer running times for episodes. What do you think about the new logo and branding? Leave your comments!
