So, I made a mistake when I started this site. I thought that if I set a daily and weekly topical scheduleit would insure that I got posts written. After all, it is called “Daily Dose of Doctor Who.”
However, it had the opposite results. Instead of being excited and looking forward to having and outlet to write, I began to dread it. Instead of eagerly hunting down my next topic or want to watch the latest scheduled episode or read the newest comic installment I loathed the task. I had turned something I loved into one more task that had to be checked off a list. Within a week of setting my schedule I couldn’t go on with my planned posts.
I took a week off. At least, that was what I was telling myself. I will take a week off of the website, since life is insane busy and begin fresh again once everything in my personal world settles down. However, it never settled down. Stressed compiled until it was overwhelming. Then the site was forgotten. Once remembered it was always at inopportune moments. I cannot begin in the middle of the week at a random point! It must be clear that if I post again I will keep posting. At least, that’s what I thought.
Life took over, as it should. It’s the most important. I let fandom fade into the background. However, life is still chaotic. While many questions have been answered (I’ve moved, found a new job, new home, new state, new many things,) there are some things that will continue to be constantly be juggled (house, kids, marriage, basically living.) If writing about my fandom is something I want to do, I need to just suck it up and do it when I can. The only promises I’m making right now are to myself and no one else.
Yet, if I want to make it something I enjoy I’m going to need to throw the schedule out. While I might keep some things on certain days out of bad habits (IE: Comics come out of Wednesday so I usually want to talk about comic books on Wednesdays,) I will most likely just have the goal of having something to say about Doctor Who each day.
I would also like to encourage you to join me. Either in the comments section, or through writing your own piece. If you are a Doctor Who fan who does not want to pay for their own website please fill out the contact fields and let me know what you’d like to write about. It’s easier to talk about Doctor Who each day when more than one voice is heard.
So, my resolutions for 2018:
- Read one Doctor Who book a month
- Read every Doctor Who comic I can get my hands on
- [Generic get healthy and exercise statement]
- Drink less
- Laugh hard
- Run fast
- Be kind
- Write about Doctor Who every day
